September at Little Red Kettle: Workshops, New Classes and ITP Preparations

September has been a busy and exciting month at Little Red Kettle, with our weekly workshops and creative programmes returning after the summer break.

As children and young people came back through the doors, LRK was once again full of energy, imagination and creativity. Across the month, our workshop groups reconnected, welcomed new faces and began exploring new ideas through drama games, storytelling, movement, improvisation and creative play.

September was also a month of preparation, with our new LRK Movers class getting ready to begin and work continuing behind the scenes on this year’s Interactive Touring Play.

Workshops Are Back

Our weekly workshops returned this September, welcoming children and young people back for a new term of theatre, play and creativity.

Across our age groups, the first few weeks were all about settling in, getting to know one another and building confidence as a group. Through drama games, improvisation, storytelling and movement, participants had the chance to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new members and start creating together again.

Our younger group began the term with lots of playful activities focused on space, communication, teamwork and confidence. The 10–12s spent time getting reacquainted through games, coordination and improv storytelling, while our older group started exploring devising and creating their own short scenes.

At Little Red Kettle, workshops are about more than performance. They give children and young people space to express themselves, work with others, use their imagination and build confidence in a supportive creative environment.

Culture Club Returns

September also saw Culture Club return for a new term.

The group spent time catching up with one another, reflecting on a recent outing to the theatre and easing back into the term through drama games and creative activities. They also began creating abstract pieces of art, giving everyone a chance to settle in, explore ideas and reconnect with the group.

Culture Club is an important part of LRK’s work with young people, offering space for creativity, discussion, theatre, visual art and shared cultural experiences. It gives participants the opportunity to respond to the arts in different ways, develop their own ideas and be part of a creative community.

Getting Ready for LRK Movers

Behind the scenes, September was also full of preparation for LRK Movers, our new creative movement class for children aged 8 – 12.

LRK Movers is designed for children who enjoy movement, music, imagination and creative expression. It is not a strict dance technique class and no previous dance or yoga experience is needed. Instead, the focus is on confidence, teamwork, creativity and having fun through movement.

The class will include creative movement, choreography, yoga-inspired activities, mindfulness and group work, giving children a playful and supportive space to move, explore and express themselves.

We are excited to see this new class begin in October and to welcome a new group of young movers into LRK.

Interactive Touring Play Preparations

September also marked an important stage in preparations for Little Red Kettle’s Interactive Touring Play, often known as the ITP.

Each year, LRK brings live theatre directly into primary schools through the Interactive Touring Play, giving children the chance to experience storytelling, performance and participation in a familiar school setting. September was a key month for planning, preparation and getting ready for this year’s new production.

As part of this, we shared a new blog explaining what the Interactive Touring Play is, how it works and why it has become such an important part of Little Red Kettle’s work with schools.

With rehearsals coming soon and the tour ahead, we are looking forward to bringing another original LRK story to primary schools.

Looking Back on September

September was a month of returning, reconnecting and preparing for the creative months ahead.

From weekly workshops and Culture Club to the build-up for LRK Movers and the Interactive Touring Play, it has been lovely to see Little Red Kettle filling up again with children and young people ready to play, create, move, imagine and take part.

A huge thank you to everyone who has joined us this term so far, and to the families, facilitators and team members who help make LRK’s programmes possible.
