October at Little Red Kettle – Creativity, Collaboration & New Adventures
October has been another busy and imaginative month at Little Red Kettle, filled with creative discoveries, storytelling and plenty of opportunities for our young people to explore new ideas.
From alien invasions and mad scientists in our drama workshops to filmmaking in Culture Club and preparations for our latest Interactive Touring Play, it’s been a month of creativity, collaboration and exciting projects.
Here’s a look back at what we’ve been up to throughout October!
Imagination Takes Centre Stage in Our Drama Workshops
Our weekly drama workshops have been bursting with creativity this month, with each age group exploring different ways to develop characters, tell stories and bring their ideas to life.
Our 7–9-year-olds (Smallies) have been particularly busy, travelling into imaginary worlds filled with aliens and mad scientists! From translating alien gibberish and creating unusual characters to experimenting with soundscapes, freeze frames and comic strips, the group have been discovering just how much is possible when they let their imaginations run wild.
Meanwhile, our 10–12-year-olds (Juniors) explored the animal kingdom through sound, movement and creative character work. They designed their own hybrid animals, imagining everything from their habitats and diets to the fascinating characteristics that made each creature unique. It was a wonderful opportunity to combine imagination, storytelling and teamwork.
Our 13+ group (Seniors) continued developing their improvisation skills through a range of exercises and games. Taking inspiration from television, they created their own programmes, working together to develop characters, think on their feet and bring their ideas to an audience.
Across all three groups, the focus has been on encouraging confidence, self-expression and collaboration, giving everyone space to experiment, have fun and discover something new.
From Art to Film in Culture Club
Our Culture Club members have been putting their creativity to work in a different way this October, exploring visual art and developing their own filmmaking project.
The group visited Garter Lane Gallery for the Trust Artists Unconditionally exhibition, where they explored questions about what makes art art and the role of public art. It was a chance to look at creativity from different perspectives, share opinions and find inspiration for their own work.
Back in the studio, attention turned towards filmmaking. The young people began developing their own movie, exploring ideas, creating storyboards and working together on the script.
As the project progressed, the group moved towards rehearsals, bringing their characters and ideas off the page and beginning to see their story take shape.
The project has given Culture Club members opportunities to explore different forms of storytelling while developing their confidence, communication and creative decision-making skills.
A New Adventure Is Coming – Oh, What a Day!
October also brought exciting developments behind the scenes as Little Red Kettle introduced our latest Interactive Touring Play, Oh, What a Day!, written and directed by Joe Meagher.
This year’s production follows best friends Billy Bonkers and Milly Madasaboot, who find themselves caught up in a rather unusual adventure when the dastardly Dr Hector Kryptonfactor threatens to trap the world in Monday morning forever!
With a race against time, extraordinary challenges and plenty of unexpected characters, Oh, What a Day! promises another fun-filled experience for primary school children across Waterford.
Throughout October, we’ve been sharing a first look at the new production, including its colourful artwork and a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the team coming together for their initial table read.
As always, the children will be at the heart of the action, stepping into the story and becoming the characters themselves, guided by our ITP team.
With rehearsals beginning in November and the school tour starting on 23 November 2026, we’re looking forward to bringing this brand new adventure to school halls across Waterford.

Looking Ahead to November
As October comes to a close, there’s plenty to look forward to at Little Red Kettle.
Our drama workshops and Culture Club will continue offering young people opportunities to explore their creativity, work together and build confidence through the arts.
Behind the scenes, preparations for Oh, What a Day! will move into rehearsals before the production heads out to primary schools later in November.
We’re looking forward to another month of imagination, storytelling and shared experiences, both in our workshops and out in the wider community.
